A Year in Review (or, how this thing came to be!)

Woohoo! First blog post :) Here's to many, many more!

2012 was quite the year! It's been such a blessing to sit and watch God grow this business from a far-off dream to a reality. I've always, always loved photographing people; landscapes are pretty, but don't offer the exciting variations of a person's expressions and the gorgeous light bouncing from a person's eyes. But doing it for real? I just never thought I'd be able to do this as a profession. Never thought I'd be able to meet and spend time hanging out with awesome people. Yeah, it's been a privilege to walk beside God as He created not only the dream, but brought the dream to fruition.

I started doing portraits for people other than myself at the request of my now sister-in-law and brother-in-law. I had a blast working with them, really liked the results, and then people continued to ask me. In January, my husband and I attended Winter Jam and I gathered the gumption to ask the guitarist from MercyMe for a guitar pic (I had one from them in High School and lost it). They were trying to round up sponsors for kids through Compassion International, and, feeling a little selfish getting a pic and not a packet, I also picked up the information for a little guy in Togo, West Africa named William. He had been waiting for a sponsor for eight months. After a bit of discussion, Jordan and I decided to step out in faith that God would provide a way for us to pay for his sponsorship each month. And He has! What a blessing that has been; not only the way God honored our faith, but the way I've fallen in love with this little guy. We pray for the chance to someday meet him. Knock, and the door will be opened :)

And since that decision to step out in faith, God has brought some amazing people and places into my life. From getting to photograph a little one from their birth as they grow, to capturing a couple's first moments as husband and wife (once in Jamaica, nonetheless!), to countless families and kids, it's been a great year with some incredible people and places.

So that's the story of how this started. Who knows what 2013 holds. But, I'm excited to witness whatever it is! Happy New Year to you, and may you be filled with the depth of God's love and goodness.

Here's a sampling of my favorite images from 2012. Pay attention to our Facebook page in the next couple of days; something exciting is coming!
